What's going on at St Paul's?   

 
Autumn 2007
 

Redevelopment of St Paul ' s Church was completed last year and we ' d like to invite you to see what St Paul ' s Church and Centre now has to offer you and everyone in Norton Lees. There ' s a variety of groups throughout the week offering activities for children and young people, health and fitness, local history, music and lots more.  

In this leaflet you will find details of groups who meet regularly at St Paul ' s Church and Centre or have a connection with us - some will be new to you!  You are assured of a warm welcome and we hope that you will find plenty to interests you!  

Uniformed Organisations  

Beavers - Children 6-8.  Mondays 5.00 pm in Scout Hall, Welby Place

Babies and Toddlers  

Peekaboo (National Childbirth Trust) Wednesday 10.00 am -12 noon.  Welcomes babies and toddlers and their parents and carers for peer support, friendship, toys, songs and a snack.  Babies in the Old Vestry and toddlers in the Upper Hall. Cost £1.50.

Health and Fitness  

Aerobics for beginners - Fridays at 6.30 pm in Upper Hall. . Combining fun and fitness for people of all ages from all walks of life - perfect way to get fit and feel great!

Legs, Bums & Tums - Mondays 6.45-8.15 pm in Nave, Cost £5.  This class has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and will help strengthen your heart and improve your circulation - maintain healthy bones and assist in weight control.  Contact Paul Richardson 0771 0060404 or 246 4448 

Table Tennis - Tuesdays 8.00-9.30pm at the Scout Hall on Welby Place.  Most members are over 50 but we are always happy to welcome new adult members.

Tai Chi - Wednesdays 8.00 pm Upper Hall. Sun Style Tai Chi Exercises for Arthritis, Diabetes and Back Pain - a passport to Better Health & Fitness.  Experience the gentle flowing movements of Tai Chi, and treat your whole body to a gentle and relaxing workout.

Weight Watchers - Thursdays 9.30-11.30 am and 6.00 - 8.00 pm Upper Hall. Watch yourself change and discover why people who attend Weight Watchers meetings lose 3 times more weight than those who go it alone.  Turn up on the day or contact Meeting Finder 08457 123 000 

Yoga for all - Wednesdays from 6.00-7.30 pm Upper Hall. A course suitable for all ages and abilities appealing to anyone looking for relaxation and exercise with gentle stretches.

Dance at Ann ' s - Ann Warsop is keen to start classes for adults and children at St Paul ' s and would like to hear from anyone interested in weekly classes in Ballroom, Latin, Waltz, Tango, Jive or ChaChaCha.

Aim to Dance - Nisha Lall offers taster sessions in different styles of dance including Salsa, Latin, Bellydance, and Bollywood.  Nisha is a qualified Dance and Aerobics instructor who would be pleased to offer classes locally.  If you are interested in dance or fitness classes contact Nisha on 07719 149352  

Local Interest and Neighbourhood  

Norton Lees Local History Group - usually 2 nd Tuesday in the month - 7.30-9.30 pm in the Old Vestry - with occasional visiting speakers.  Why not join and share your knowledge of our area?  New members always welcome.  Contact Irene Seggar via the Centre Office. 

Thorpe House Residents ' Association ( THORA ) welcomes anyone who lives in and around Norton Lees who is keen to make the area a safer and better place to live.  THORA regularly liaises with the City Council and the Police and are always happy to welcome new people.  A small donation towards expenses is welcome. Four General Meetings per year on Tuesday evenings at 7.30 pm in the Nave -

St Paul ' s Music Listening Group 2 nd and 4 th Thursday 7.00-9.00 pm in the Old Vestry.  Over 20 members, meet to listen to classical music and the popular music of our youth with an interval for refreshments and a chance to have a chat.  We try to make sure that all who need it get a lift. (We don ' t mind if you have a snooze - most of us do from time to time!)

Women's Groups

M U (Mothers ' Union) 2 nd Wednesday in the month 2.00-4.00 pm in the Old Vestry.  Working towards improving family life in our communities nationally and internationally.  St Paul ' s MU , now merged with St James ' Norton has about 30 members.  Interesting speakers and supporting a variety of causes.

Women's Institute 1 st & 3 rd Wednesday in month in the Old Vestry. 

Offering skills and opportunities together with friendship and companionship.  Often there is a speaker, always lots of fun and of course a cup of tea!  There are outings and support of local appeals using members ' skills and craftwork.  Visitors are welcome to attend meetings to find out more.

St Paul ' s Centre has four bright, attractive rooms which are available for all types of groups, clubs and functions.  There is a well equipped kitchen and two smaller drinks stations.  Most rooms have disabled access.  Prices from £9 to £15 per hour for general use with special rates for community groups and day bookings.  You can see picures on the website or come and have a look! 

The Scout Hall on Welby Place is also available it has toilets, and drinks making kitchen, it is large hall with a wooden floor and a new heating system.
